Enhance your Hacker News experience with a beautiful, clean, modern design that's fully customizable.
Once installed, Modern will simply apply the new look and features to existing HN pages, without you having to do anything.
All current features on Hacker News are supported, this extension simply builds upon the existing interface to offer many improvements, including:
Features
- Themes – light, classic HN, slate, dark, black
- Fonts – sans, serif, change font size
- Styles – adjust column width, line height, justify text
- History – quickly jump to stories you've previously viewed
- Comments – inline reply + many other improvements
- Index – switch between list / table view, customize columns
- Profiles – new design with tabs, clickable links etc
- Accounts – all HN account features supported
- Switch back to the old design (if needed) with one click
- More improvements planned for upcoming releases!

Bookmarks
Save your favorite stories, comments, highlights and users. No account needed. Stored privately in browser. Backup and restore to JSON file.
New Replies
Shows a badge next to stories with new replies since your last visit. Orange arrows can be used to navigate new comments within stories.
Highlighter
Select any text and click the bookmark icon to create a highlight. These are also saved to your bookmarks where they can be easily read.
User Popup
Hover over any username to see account age, karma and a full scrollable about section. Save users to your bookmarks using the icon.
Selection Popup
Select any text to show a useful popup menu. Highlight, reply quoting the text, copy to clipboard, speak the text (TTS), or search on HN.
Control Pad
Use the intelligent arrow buttons to quickly navigate between comments and around pages. Includes keyboard shortcuts for full control.
Date Picker
Quickly navigate back to previous days using the date picker widget. Makes it easy to see the front page of HN on specific days in the past.
Backup & Restore
Your data is stored privately within the browser, and can also be imported / exported to a JSON file. You are in full control of your data.

Yes! Just install the extension on the other device, then click the "Upgrade to Pro" button and choose "Already paid? Log in". You'll receive a link to activate your Pro upgrade.
